Description:  In the early Conrail days, power was still stationed at Charleston although by the mid 1980s that ended as the local switching quickly evaporated. A very poor quality b/w shot(and camera) but probably one of the earliest rail photos I took. Thirty years later, the buildings remain but all the trackage seen here is gone....it is now covered with asphalt.

Description:  Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #7146, #7237-B, and #7227. All are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7146 was built in October of 1957, #7237-B was built in November of 1959, and #7227 was built in December of 1957. They've come down the East Slope of the Allegheny Mountains with a 108-car mineral train, and have just passed under the 24th Street Bridge on their way to the Eastbound Receiving Yards in Altoona. Partially visible at the far right is the PRR's SLOPE Tower. (#10 of 21)
