Description: |
E&M. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Juniata E&M Shop Yard in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 August 1963. Shown here is a view to the right of the trusty turntable. Visible are dozens of locomotives in various states of repair: from work almost finished to being cannibalized. Many makes and models are represented. Visible in the foreground is what is left of PRR engine #7071, an EFS-17M built by EMD in 1956 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. Directly beyond it is PRR engine #8987, a BS-12 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in 1951 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. |

All were built by GM-EMD. #9541 is an EF-15 built in September of 1948 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #9686 is an EF-15A built as an EH-15 for helper service in February of 1949, rated at 1,500 horsepower, but later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A. #7072 is an EFS-17M built in October of 1956 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. These locomotives and a 77-car mixed-cargo freight train are stopped at 3rd Street in Duncansville, awaiting orders to proceed up the New Portage Branch line to Gallitzin and points West. There are also two pushers on the end: PRR engines #8613 and #8606. |

Wye Switches. Here is the fifth of seven successive original photos that I took at the Wye Switches in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, on 3 July 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9541, #9686, and #7072. In this context, they're pulling a 77-car mixed cargo freight train through Duncansville and up the New Portage Branch line to Gallitzin and points West. At this point, they're crossing Fifth Street. There are also two pushers on the end: PRR engines #8613 and #8606. |

CR 7074 in basic black |
Description: |
Conrail 7074 in a line of stored engines at the massive Conway, Pennsylvania yard in the Spring of 1983 (date approx). Note the metal banding holding the body doors shut on these engines - not a good sign. I don't know much about engine history, but judging from the style of numerals in the number boards, this was perhaps originally a Pennsylvania Railroad engine. |
